North Notts Ploughing Match

North Notts Ploughing Match 2008

North Notts Ploughing Match was held at Scrooby on Sunday 14 September 2008. It was fantastic weather, for the first time in many days. But Scrooby was lucky; many other areas had heavy rain. Consequently many ploughing matches, such as that held at Lincoln, were cancelled, and their competitors flooded to Scrooby to notch-up a few points in the 2008 ploughing championships. The day at Scrooby was all the bettter for the huge number of entries.

Competitors entered in one of the classes:

  • World Style
  • Classic Reversible
  • Reversible
  • Vintage Trailed
  • Novice Vintage Mounted
  • Open Vintage Mounted
  • Commercial
  • Classic
  • Horticultural
  • Ferguson
  • Horse Ploughing
The contrast in style and especially speed, between these modern, classic and vintage tractors, was enormous. The subtler differences in ploughing were willingly explained by knowledgeable spectators if asked.

The event was organised by Mark Wagstaff of Scaftworth, and a committee of local farmers including Scrooby Top's Ian Ashworth.
