Kirkby House, Scrooby

Some years ago a lady stopped while passing Scrooby and gave us these photos (we live in Kirkby House).

Both photos show the south aspect of Kirkby House Scrooby, looking north.

Note on back of photo mounting reads:
"Kirkby House, Scrooby, Notts, 1886
The Great Aunts Job
Miss Katherine Job
Mrs Woodcock
Mrs Thomas Neale
Mrs Alex Auden Short
I cannot say which is which."

Note on back of photo mounting reads:
"Kirkby House, Scrooby, Notts
Grandfather Dr Samual Job, his wife and sisters."

Welchman Collection

The Welchman Collection of photographs is held at Bassetlaw Museum, Retford. Welchman was a professional photographer based in Retford, who took photographs of the Nottinghamshire landscape and buildings from the late Nineteenth Century. Visit the website of Bassetlaw Museum for more details of the collection.

Church Watercolour 1935

Gary Watt recently contacted the scrooby.net website to say that he had acquired a 1935 watercolour of Scrooby's St Wilfrid's Church, painted by William Cowan. He kindly forwarded a photograph of the painting, and also offers it for sale to any interested person. If you are interested in purchasing the painting, please contact graham@scrooby.net in the first instance.

The church is unchanged, but the monument in front of the church has since collapsed. The pieces are presently stacked against the external western wall of the south porch of the church.
